We have been learning about poetry. Using ActivInspire and PicLits the students have learned how to write Haiku and Diamante Poetry.

Haiku poems are written about things in nature following a syllable pattern for each of the 3 lines. The students first began learning about Haiku poetry using a flipchart for whole group instruction, then in pairs students created a second Haiku poem with students independently completing the third picture by typing the words for their Haiku poem

After learning how to write Haiku poems, we learned how to write Diamante Poems. Diamante poems use nouns, adjectives, and verbs to create the 7 lines for the poem then the spacing of the words in the lines are arranged to form the diamond shape.
